Use Your Good F*cking Candles Already

There’s a candle my mom used to keep tucked away.
It smelled like comfort — warm, golden, a little bit magical — and it cost more than either of us would usually spend. But she never lit it. She was saving it for a moment that felt worthy.

Something we’re both guilty of: hesitating to enjoy our most special things.

Eventually, we started calling each other out for it.
Now, whenever one of us is holding back — on joy, on softness, on living — we say:

“Use your good f*cking candles already.”

It’s become a mantra.
A philosophy.
A practice.
And honestly? It’s changed everything.

Why do we wait?

We save our favorite perfume for a “special” night out.
We hold back our feelings, waiting for the right time.
Our favorite dress hangs untouched, just in case the Queen pops by.

We convince ourselves that some future version of us — more accomplished, more beautiful, more together — will deserve these things more than we do now.

Whether it’s fear of waste, a scarcity mindset, or the quiet belief that we haven’t earned them yet… the result is the same:

We delay joy.
We delay truth.
We delay life.

The message underneath

When we hold back like that, we send a quiet message to ourselves:
That our everyday selves aren’t enough.
That today isn’t worthy.
That softness, beauty, and pleasure must be earned.

But what if that’s not true?

What if a regular Thursday is worthy?
What if joy isn’t a luxury — it’s a right?

Beauty, rest, and delight aren’t rewards for productivity.
They’re medicine.
They’re alchemy.
They’re how we remember that being alive is reason enough.

A little spell for living

Using the good candles isn’t just aesthetic.
It’s an act of love — of magic — of recovery.

So here’s my challenge to you this week:

🕯 Drink your tea from your favorite mug, just because it feels good.
🥂 Have champagne on a Monday night for no reason at all.
🍞 Use the good ingredients and feed your body with love.
💃 Wear your favorite dress while you wash dishes.
🎶 Turn on soft music and dim the lights just to shift the mood.
✋ Say no to what drains you. Say yes to what feels aligned.
💬 Say the true thing — don’t wait for someone else to go first.

And above all?

Use your good fucking candles already.

Because you are already worth it.
